U.S. - Mexico Tribal Border Infrastructure Grant Program

EPA's 1996 and subsequent Congressional appropriations bills designated funds for infrastructure projects within 100 kilometers (approximately 62 miles) of the U.S.-Mexico Border. The appropriations language stated that funding would cover: 

"...architectural, engineering, planning, design, construction and related activities in connection with the construction of high priority water and wastewater facilities in the area of the United States-Mexico Border, after consultation with the appropriate border commission;"

$29.4 million of the Border Environment Infrastructure Funds (BEIF) has been set aside to address high priority drinking water and wastewater projects on U.S. Tribal lands within 62 miles North of the U.S. / Mexico Border. To date, 42 projects have been funded and two-thirds are complete or under construction. Additional funding is dependent on future allocations for the program. For more information, please contact:
