Kirk Cordell, NCPTT executive director, joined representatives from The History Channel and the Department of Transportation in co-chairing the first Expert Panel under the Preserve America Summit initiative at the Central Park Armory in New York July 31 through Aug. 1.

The initiative, sponsored by the White House and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act with a look to the future of historic preservation. As the first of 11 to be held across the country, this panel focused on fostering innovation in the field.

Panel members included Robert Silman, chair of the Preservation Technology and Training Board, John Cosgrove, Executive Director of the Alliance of National Heritage Areas, and Bobbie Greene, Director of the National Trust’s Save America’s Treasures program, along with nine other experts from around the U.S.

Panel recommendations will be presented along with those of the 10 other panels at the Preserve America Summit in New Orleans in October, where the First Lady is expected to receive them on behalf of the White House.
