Partnerships

In this complex, globalized, post 9/11 world, our operational partnerships have never been more important to our efforts to protect your communities.

Today’s FBI works with colleagues at every level of government—local, state, federal, even international—across the law enforcement, intelligence, and first responder communities. We lead and take part in multi-agency task forces, intelligence groups and fusion centers, and public and private sector alliances. A number of our partners literally sit shoulder-to-shoulder with us in FBI space, just as we share our agents and analysts with other agencies. We work closely on joint investigations—sometimes taking the lead, sometimes taking a back seat to others, sometimes contributing equally among many agencies. Our work with our colleagues, in fact, is so intertwined today that it’s often impossible to separate the contributions of one agency—and one nation—from the next.

The Albany Division participates in many joint investigations and in various task forces with local, state, and other federal law enforcement agencies throughout upstate New York and the state of Vermont. These partnerships bring together law enforcement professionals with diverse skills and areas of expertise that strengthen our ability to carry out our mission.

In Albany, our major partnerships include:

• The Albany Joint Terrorism Task Force brings together representatives of local, state, and federal agencies to investigate any and all terrorism leads, develop and investigate cases, provide support for special events, and proactively identify threats that may impact the area and the nation. We also have satellite Joint Terrorism Task Forces working out of our Syracuse, New York and Burlington, Vermont Resident Agencies.
• The New York State Intelligence Center (NYSIC) is a multi-agency intelligence center that gathers, coordinates, analyzes, and disseminates intelligence—including threats and vulnerabilities—to more than 540 federal, state, county, and local agencies across New York state.
• The Vermont Fusion Center, run by the Vermont State Police, serves as a central information sharing point for Vermont law enforcement agencies. The fusion center has personnel from state and federal agencies who monitor, collect, and analyze information submitted from participating agencies and disseminate information back to those agencies. The FBI works closely with the fusion center.
• The Albany Division participates in the FBI Counterintelligence Strategic Partnerships Program, a national alliance between private industry, academia, government agencies, and the FBI and its counterintelligence community partners to identify and protect projects of great importance to the U.S. government.
• The Capital Region Cyber Predator Task Force (CRCPTF) takes a proactive approach to addressing criminal activities involving the interstate transportation of obscene material and the sexual exploitation of children over the Internet. The CRCPTF works closely with the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force, coordinating investigative resources in upstate New York. The task force includes the following agencies: the Albany Police Department, the Bethlehem Police Department, the Colonie Police Department, the FBI, the Guilderland Police Department, the New York Sate Division of Parole, the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office, and the Waterford Police Department.
• The FBI-led Southern Tier Cyber Predator Task Force consists of 19 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies that conduct cyber crime investigations in Broome, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware, Tioga, and Tompkins counties in New York. The following agencies participate: the Binghamton Police Department, the Broome County District Attorney's Office, the Broome County Security Division, the Broome County Sheriff's Office, the Cornell University Police, the Cortland Police Department, the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, the Endicott Police Department, the FBI, the Ithaca Police Department, the Johnson City Police Department, the New York State Police, the SUNY Binghamton Police, the Tioga County Sheriff's Office, the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Attorney's Office, the U.S. Probation Department, the U.S. Marshal's Service, and the Vestal Police Department.
• The Albany InfraGard Chapter is the local arm of a national information-sharing alliance between private industry, academia, and government focused on protecting critical national infrastructures in both the online and offline worlds.
• The Capital District Safe Streets Task Force identifies and dismantles criminal enterprises/organizations and violent street gangs within the Capital District. Special emphasis is placed on groups and/or gangs that commit high impact violent crimes, including homicide, felonious assault, drug trafficking, extortion, and weapons violations. The task force consists of officers and agents from the Albany Police Department, the Troy Police Department, the Schenectady Police Department, the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, the Cohoes Police Department, the Coeymans Police Department, and the FBI. The task force also assists agencies throughout the states of Vermont and New York.
