2013 Spotter Show Schedule

Every year, the National Weather Service in Topeka presents spotter talks which are open to the general public.  Presentations are typically around 90 minutes long, and are given by a meteorologist from our office. Spotter training will focus on storm structure and accurate identification of important cloud features associated with supercell and squall line thunderstorms.

While attending a talk we provide you with our contact information.  We encourage everyone to call the NWS once you are safe to pass along critical information about any severe weather you experienced.  We may also call you at your home and ask you about ongoing weather in your area or after the severe weather has passed to inquire about possible damage or hail size.

If you are unable to attend a class, or just want to review concepts, online spotter training courses are available to you!

This training is focused on the basics of convective weather and storm structure. We strongly encourage all county spotters and others who are interested in becoming spotters to complete this training as an introduction into basic spotting concepts.  This training takes around one hour can be accessed at
