The InterAgency Board (IAB) for Equipment Standardization and InterOperability Working Group is designed to establish and coordinate local, state, and federal standardization, interoperability, and responder safety to prepare for, respond to, mitigate, and recover from any incident by identifying requirements for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or Explosives (CBRNE) incident response equipment.

The mission of the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) is to prevent work-related injury and illness by ensuring the development, certification, deployment, and use of personal protective equipment and fully integrated, intelligent ensembles. NPPTL focuses expertise on design and testing of a variety of state-of-the-art personal protective devices and technologies including respirators, chemical-resistant clothing, hearing protectors, and safety goggles and glasses for use by first responders against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agents in the event of a terrorist incident.
