Congressman Pete Olson today issued the following statement in support U.S. District Court Judge Henry E. Hudson’s decision that the federal mandate requiring individuals to purchase health care coverage is unconstitutional:

“Judge Hudson’s decision is the right one: The federal government does not have the power to compel American citizens to purchase health insurance. As his logical and reasoned ruling makes clear, the flawed health care takeover passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama was an unprecedented expansion of federal power that exceeds Congress’ constitutional authority.  Congress has a duty to pass thoughtful legislation within the parameters of the Constitution to ensure Americans have access to quality, affordable health care.  I remain committed to achieving that goal.”
