COMPASS 7

COMPASS Overview

As the Army's Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) software, COMPASS provides product support decision makers a tool identifying the best possible balance of cost and availability by simultaneously optimizing both the maintenance concept and supply support of a system. The model achieves the goal of a given operational availability, through the use of embedded supply algorithms from the Selected Essential-Item Stockage for Availability Method (SESAME). SESAME is the model used for computing initial provisioning requirements. COMPASS simultaneously considers up to four levels of maintenance and supply support plus contractor support. It will identify the most economical maintenance level to either repair or discard the end item and all line replaceable units (LRU) and shop replaceable units (SRU).

COMPASS can evaluate logistics life cycle maintenance and support costs associated with a user defined maintenance concept. In some cases, it is desirable to determine the effect of implementing a maintenance concept other than the optimal COMPASS policy. To perform this function, the analyst provides a maintenance concept and the model computes the cost associated with implementing this concept.

COMPASS supports the identification of cost drivers through its STAT capability. This tool allows the user to show the impact of a changing parameter over multiple iterations. COMPASS is a cross-platform, Java-based program available to US Government personnel and contractors working for US government programs.

COMPASS 7 Released!

Built in Java 8, COMPASS 7 is a modernized implementation of the well understood LORA model developed for COMPASS 6.2. The redesign focused on making COMPASS more user friendly by designing a new interface to make data entry faster and more efficient. COMPASS 7 also implements a minimum data set check to ensure that know exactly what fields are required to run the FEA and Optimizer. A new file format will make data easier to share between users as well. Users of COMPASS 6.2 are not left behind to reenter data, COMPASS 7 imports .mdb files from COMPASS 6.2.
