Ways Greg Can Help

Art Competition

It’s that time of year again! The Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, is underway and I hope you will consider encouraging high school students to participate.

For those who have not participated in the competition before, this is a chance to recognize outstanding student artists in Oregon’s Second District to display their artwork in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.  A panel of judges who are experts in the field of art will choose the winner and runners-up. The winner will have their artwork displayed in the national student art exhibit in the  U.S. Capitol and will receive a trip for two to Washington DC to see their artwork as well as a reception in honor of the student’s talent. Runners-up will have their artwork displayed in one of my offices, located in Bend, Medford, La Grande, and Washington, D.C.

To enter the contest, students must submit no more than two pieces of artwork and the Student Information & Release Form by April 19, 2013. Please email photos of the artwork (JPEG format), along with the student’s name, address, and school to Madeline Wade at madeline.wade@mail.house.gov.

Please review the following deadlines:

April 19, 2013- Photos of artwork need to be submitted to Madeline Wade
April 22, 2013– Selection of winning artwork by a panel of judges
June 4, 2013 – Congressional Reception held in Washington, D.C. for winner where Oregon’s 2nd District artwork is revealed in the U.S. Capitol

All information regarding the Congressional Art Competition can be found at my website, www.walden.house.gov, under Art Competition. For more information, please contact Madeline Wade at (202) 225-6730 or madeline.wade@mail.house.gov with any questions.

I appreciate your assistance in facilitating this year’s competition, and I sincerely hope each aspiring art student in the Second Congressional District will take the opportunity to compete to have his or her art displayed along with that of other talented students from across the country.
