Coeur d’Alene – The emergence of solar power in Idaho and efforts to stop Idaho youth from experimenting with illegal drugs will be highlighted by Idaho Senator Mike Crapo during a visit to North Idaho next week. Crapo will tour the Camas Prairie Winery in Moscow to note the progress of federal tax credits and grants that have saved energy at the winery, which now derives a quarter of its power from solar panels.

Crapo will tour Gritman Medical Center in Moscow to discuss health care and he will speak to the Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce on issues before Congress. The volunteer efforts of a North Idaho couple to further educational programs in their community will earn them Crapo’s Spirit of Idaho Award on Monday. Crapo will also stop in Moscow to honor Latah County’s Youth Advisory Council which recently was awarded a grant of nearly $100,000 for anti-drug efforts.

The state of the nation’s auto industry will be the topic of a meeting between Crapo and the Idaho Automobile Dealers Association in Coeur d’Alene. Crapo will also meet with business and civic leaders, as well as representatives of the Port of Lewiston, to discuss issues related to salmon recovery.

Crapo’s schedule for August 24-27 includes the following events:

Monday, August 24:
10:30 a.m. Coeur d’Alene Meets with members of the Idaho Automobile Dealers Association. At the offices of Coeur d’Alene Honda, 2745 Seltice Way.

Noon Rathdrum Delivers the keynote address before the Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce Monthly Meeting. At Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 13541 W. Highway 53.

4:45 p.m. Post Falls Presents his Sprit of Idaho Award to a local couple for their volunteer efforts in education. At the offices of LCF Enterprises, 764 Clearwater Loop.

Tuesday, August 25:
10:30 a.m. Moscow Meets new University of Idaho President Duane Nellis. At the President’s office, 875 Perimeter Drive.

11:00 a.m. Moscow Tours solar power improvements made possible by federal tax policy and USDA Rural Development grants at the Camas Prairie Winery. At 110 South Main Street.

Noon Moscow Tours the Community Wellness Center at Gritman Medical Center and congratulates members of the Latah County Youth Advisory Council on receiving a $98,856 federal grant for the group’s drug-free advocacy program. At the Gritman Medical Center facilities, 700 South Main Street.

2:30 p.m. Lewiston Discusses salmon, water and dam issues with members of Lewiston’s “Citizens for Progress” group. Group members wrote Crapo to support his call for a region-wide collaborative effort on salmon recovery. At Crapo’s North Central Lewiston Offices, 313 D Street, Suite 105.

Thursday, August 27:
