Landsat 8 launches on Monday, Feb 11th!
The Landsat era that began in 1972 will carry on with the launch of the Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) which will carry the Landsat 8 satellite into orbit. Landsat 8 will continue to collect images of the Earth, circling 14 times a day and revisiting every location every 16 days. Continuity of the LDCM allows us to detect, differentiate, characterize, and monitor natural and human-induced changes over time. All 40 years of Landsat images are available for free through the USGS. For more information about Landsat 8, visit the Landsat website (USGS or NASA ) or download the Landsat 8 brochure.

The LDCM is partnership between NASA and the USGS.
