CAPT Padgett began his Naval career in 1985 at the United States Naval Academy and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry upon graduation in 1989.  He was accepted to the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and graduated with his Doctor of Medicine in 1993.

CAPT Padgett completed an internship and residency in Pediatrics at the National Naval Medical Center in 1996 and immediately attained Board Certification from the American Board of Pediatrics.  His first staff assignment was to Branch Medical Clinic Key West.

In 1999, CAPT Padgett was accepted into the Aerospace Residency and completed a Master of Public Health at Johns Hopkins university in 2000.  He then reported to Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute graduating as an Aerospace Medicine Specialist in 2002.  He achieved Board Certification in Aerospace Medicine from the American Board of Preventive Medicine the following year.

Follow-on assignment was to HMH-464 at MCAS New River, NC where he deployed as part of Task Force Tarawa on the USS KEARSAGE to Operation Iraqi Freedom.  CAPT Padgett was mainly based out of Forward Operating Base Jalibah supporting CASEVAC missions throughout Iraq during operations.  Upon return to MCAS New River, he assumed duties as the Marine Aircraft Group 29 Surgeon.

CAPT Padgett transferred to Naval Air Systems Command in 2005 as Branch Head for the Environmental Chamber in NAVAIR 4.6 Research and Engineering Human Systems Department.  While at NAVAIR, CAPT Padgett also worked on readiness policy and procedures for NAVAIR to include population and deployment health, as well as individual medical readiness.  In 2008, he transferred to Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River where he served as the clinic Flight Surgeon and Director of Public Health services.

In 2010, CAPT Padgett reported to Health Services, Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps as the Director of Preventive Medicine.
