November 7, 2012 - 11:15am: As of 9:00 am EST November 7, there are 650,416 customers without power in the New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and West Virginia as reported in the 20th situation report from the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability. 7,860,835 customers have been restored out of the 8,511,251 combined total peak outages reported in the Situation Reports for all 21 States affected. Restoration estimates and efforts by electric utilities are reported in the 20th situation report.

November 6, 2012 - 3:51pm: For today's second update, the 19th situation report, the Energy Department’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability is reporting that there are 930,783 customers without power in six states in the affect region. This is a decrease in almost 43,000 customers since this morning. 

This also means that 7,580,468 customers have restored power out of the 8,511,251 combined total peak outages reported in the Situation Reports for all 21 States affected.

November 6, 2012 - 10:33am: Power restoration efforts continue for customers affected by Hurricane Sandy. The 18th situation report, provided by the Energy Department’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, highlights restoration estimates and efforts by electric utilities.

As of 9:00 am EST November 6, there are 973,759 customers without power in the affected States (Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia). 7,357,492 customers have been restored out of the 8,511,251 combined total peak outages reported in the Situation Reports for all 21 States affected. This is a decrease from the 1,374,676 customers without power reported in Situation Report #16. 7,159,568 customers have been restored out of the 8,511,251 combined total peak outages reported in the Situation Reports for all 21 states affected.

November 5, 2012 - 9:30am: The Department of Energy continues to support the work of utilities and local officials in their efforts to restore power throughout the region affected by Hurricane Sandy. The 16th situation report, provided by the Energy Department’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability, highlights restoration estimates and efforts by electric utilities.

As of 9:00 am EST November 5, there are 1,374,676 customers without power in the affected states. This is a decrease from the 1,855,958 customers without power reported in Situation Report #15. 7,136,575 customers have been restored out of the 8,511,251 combined total peak outages reported in the Situation Reports for all 21 states affected.

As of 2:00 pm EST November 4, there are 1,855,958 customers without power in the affected states. This is a decrease from the 1,923,169 customers without power reported in Situation Report #14. 6,655,293 customers have been restored out of the 8,511,251 combined total peak outages reported in the Situation Reports for all 21 states affected.

November 1, 2012 - 3:31pm: The ninth situation report regarding power outages cause by Hurricane Sandy is now available from the Energy Department. 

As of 2:00 pm EDT November 1, there are 4,454,650 customers without power in the affected States. This is a decrease from the 4,657,013 customers without power reported in Situation Report #8. November 1, 2012 - 11:06am: Restoring power to the millions of Americans who lost electricity during Hurricane Sandy is a top priority for the Obama Administration and the Department of Energy. As of 9:00 am EDT November 1, there are 4,657,013 customers without power in the affected States. This is a decrease of 1,405,513 power outages since yesterday afternoon.

October 31, 2012 - 3:39pm: The Energy Department continues to work with our federal partners, including the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) to support state and local officials who are responsible for working with utilities as they respond to the storm. In addition, the seventh situation report from the Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability is now available.

October 31, 2012 - 10:21am: As of 5:00 am EDT October 31, the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center reported that there was no discernible surface circulation for the remnants of Sandy and the storm has weakened into a surface trough of low pressure over western Pennsylvania.

October 30, 2012 - 3:21pm: The Energy Department’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability has released the fifth situation report for post-tropical cyclone Sandy. 

At 8:00 pm EDT October 29, the National Hurricane Center reported Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City, NJ as a post tropical cyclone.

As of 2:00 pm EDT October 30, the impacted States report a total of 8,204,914 customers without power in the affected areas. There is some increase in outages as the storm moves west-northwest.

October 30, 2012 - 10:35am: At 8:00 pm EDT October 29, the National Hurricane Center reported Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City, NJ as a post tropical cyclone. As of 5:00 am EDT October 30, Sandy has maximum sustained winds of 65 mph and the center of Sandy is 15 miles east of York, PA and is moving 15 mph west northwest.

The fourth situation report is now available. 

A State of Emergency has been declared for Connecticut, Delaware, Washington D.C., Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, and West Virginia.

As of 9:00 am EDT October 30, the impacted States report a total of 8,114,433 customers without power in the affected areas.

October 29, 2012 - 3:30pm: As of 2:00 pm EDT October 29, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports Hurricane Sandy has maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. Sandy is 110 miles southeast of Atlantic City, NJ moving north-northeast at 28 mph. The NHC predicts hurricane force winds are expected along portions of the coast between Chincoteague, VA and Chatham, MA. On the forecast track the center of the storm is forecast to make landfall this evening along the southern New Jersey coast.

October 29, 2012 - 10:12am: The Energy Department’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability has published the second Emergency Situation Report. This report provides details on customer outages and other energy sector impacts in the storm’s path, as well as recovery and restoration activities being undertaken.

As of 8:00 am EDT October 29, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports Hurricane Sandy has maximum sustained winds of 85 mph. Sandy is 265 miles southeast of Atlantic City, NJ moving north-northeast at 20 mph. The NHC predicts hurricane force winds are expected along portions of the coast between Chincoteague, VA and Chatham, MA. On the forecast track the center of the storm is forecast to be near the Mid-Atlantic coast tonight.

A State of Emergency has been declared for Connecticut, Delaware, Washington D.C., Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Virginia.

As of 8:00 am EDT October 29, the impacted States report a total of 36,426 customers without power in the affected areas. Get the full details in the second situation report.

October 28, 2012 - 3:32pm: The National Hurricane Center reports Hurricane Sandy has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Sandy is 575 miles south of New York City moving northeast at 14 mph and on the forecast track the center of the storm is forecast to be near the Mid-Atlantic coast tomorrow night.

As Hurricane Sandy continues to track, the Energy Department’s Office of Electricity Delivery and Energy Reliability will publish Emergency Situation Reports that provide details on customer outages and other energy sector impacts in the storm’s path, as well as recovery and restoration activities being undertaken. The first Situation Report is now available, and will continue to be provided as developments occur.

As of 2:00 pm EDT October 28, there are fewer than 5,000 customers without power in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Utilities are preparing for the hurricane by pre-positioning supplies, securing workers, and requesting mutual assistance support to restore power after the storm makes landfall. Restoration activities will be contingent upon wind levels and flood conditions in the impacted areas.
