IG/JAG The primary role of the IG is to assist in resolving personal complaints based on an alleged wrongdoing or injustice. The IG is also responsible for the Fraud, Waste and Abuse program, Congressional Inquiry responses, investigating claims of Improper Mental Health Evaluations (MHE) and the Self-Inspection program for HQ CAP-USAF.
Additionally, in fulfilling CAP-USAF's oversight charge, CAP-USAF/IG spends a majority of its time doing IGI (inspection) duties. Each state, D.C., and Puerto Rico has a CAP Wing (52 in all). Each wing must be inspected once every four years so this translates to about 13 wing inspections/year. CAP-USAF/IG is lead office for these inspections.
