ARLINGTON, VA — December 2, 2011 — The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is offering teachers, parents, students and other community members a chance to review the organization's draft Community Strategic Plan (CSP) and provide feedback to shape the final product. The CSP will help to shape the activity's way ahead -- including mission, vision, core values, goals and initiatives -- through 2016. The current plan expires at the end of this year.

Over the past few months, DoDEA has collected and analyzed primary and secondary data to inform the development of the new CSP. Extensive efforts were made to gather feedback and input from a wide-range of stakeholders to ensure this would be an inclusive process. As a result of the data collection efforts, a DoDEA Background Report was developed to provide the strategic themes that emerged and to detail the results of the interviews and data analysis. The report is available online at cspfeedback.dodea.edu.

In September, the CSP Steering Committee met in Arlington, VA to develop the draft CSP. The Steering Committee included DoDEA administrators, teachers, principals, commanders, parents, union and association representatives, Service representatives, headquarter staff and a representative from the U.S. Department of Education. As a result of the meeting, new mission and vision statements were developed, as well as new core values and strategic goals.

DoDEA is now asking parents, students, principals, staff members, teachers, military leaders, students and any community member who interacts with the school system, such as child care or health care providers to provide comments and guidance on the work that has been done. We also value feedback from educators from military-connected public school districts, who serve as an integral component of the DoD community. To provide feedback, visit: cspfeedback.dodea.edu. Your feedback can be submitted through December 16, 2011.

DoDEA consists of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools located overseas, and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools located in the U.S. and its territories and possessions. DoDEA provides education to eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
