ARLINGTON, VA — March 17, 2010 — Three Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) students were selected to participate in the 2010 Research Science Institute (RSI) Program held from June through August at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Tristan Fitch, from Brussels American High School, in Brussels, Belgium, Yukino Nagai, from Kadena High School in Okinawa, Japan, and Kevin Burdge, from Heidelberg High School in Heidelberg, Germany were chosen to represent DoDEA. All three participants are currently in their junior year of school.
In the past, DoDEA has had 24 students participate in the RSI program.
The RSI program brings 80 of the world’s most accomplished high school students to MIT for a six-week, cost-free program designed to kick-start their careers of leadership in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. Students that are invited to the program receive free tuition, room and board.
This year RSI will take place at MIT from June 20 to July 31. Students that are participating in the program will be able to experience the entire research cycle from start to finish. They will read the most current literature in their field, draft and execute a detailed research plan, and deliver conference-style oral and written reports on their findings. While attending RSI the students will also participate in a variety of field trips to points of interest around the Boston area.
Students that are selected for the RSI program have demonstrated excellence in math, the sciences, and verbal arts and show the potential to become leaders in science. The program provides an opportunity for academically talented high school students to become leaders in science, engineering, technology and mathematics.
