PEACHTREE CITY, GA — October 16, 2007 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Dr. Gregg Mowen has been named principal of Mudge Elementary School, at Fort Knox, KY.

Mowen is currently assistant superintendent of the Puerto Rico District, a position he has held since 2004. He began his career with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) in 2001, at Fort Benning, Ga., where he served as principal of Faith Middle School.

“The Fort Knox Community Schools system is indeed fortunate to secure the talents and abilities of a fine professional in Dr. Gregg Mowen,” said Mr. Todd Curkendall, Assistant Superintendent for the Kentucky District. “His wealth of educational experience at many levels will benefit our school system greatly.”

Mowen earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University, his Specialist of Arts (SPA) degree from Eastern Michigan University, and his Doctorate of Education in educational leadership from Western Michigan University. Since 1993, Mowen has served as an administrator in several school districts. The largest of these was the Grand Rapids Public Schools, where he headed the Instruction and Instructional Support Division and led a team of 20 curriculum specialists.

Mowen and his wife, Carol, have four sons.
