23 Sunrise Pony Walk
Early on many spectators will make their way to the beach to witness the sunrise and then a piece of living history.  Come join hundreds of other onlookers, who wait with anticipation for the Saltwater Cowboys to move a large group of Chincoteague Ponies from the northern area of the Refuge, down the beach, to a corral located along Beach Road, in preparation for the Annual Pony Swim

Registration begins at 8:45 am at the Herbert H. Bateman Education Center.
Free admission for those participating in the clean-up.
29 Chincoteague-Assateague Bridge Celebration
10am - 4pm
Join the Kiwanis Club and the Chincoteague Island Community in celebrating the 50th year of the Assateague Bridge. A parade will kick off the celebration and will lead you to the Herbert H. Bateman Educational Center where you will see historic cars, nostalgic slide show, experience family games and activities, live animal shows, free food and ice cream, and a 60's sock hop. The diversity of wild places and wildlife found on more than 550 National Wildlife Refuges is celebrated.  Come build a birdhouse, see a live animal presentation or try your luck at fun activities such as Hooligan Heron’s Habitat Hunt. Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge celebrates the marvel of fall migration.  It’s a special time of year!  From noon to 3:30 pm, Thanksgiving through the following Sunday, personal vehicles are permitted to be driven on the Service Road, providing a unique opportunity for wildlife viewing.  A variety of guided walks and auditorium programs will also be offered during this time.  For more information, call (757)336-6122
