Deb Delisle, assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education, will deliver remarks at the 19th annual Metlife/National Association of Secondary School Principals' National Principal of the Year Awards Gala at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va. Delisle will discuss the important role that strong principal leadership plays in helping to turn around low-performing schools. She also will recognize the exemplary work of principals around the country who have taken on the challenges of increasing student achievement, raising graduation rates, and preparing students for careers in the 21st century.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals honors secondary school principals who have succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students and for demonstrating exemplary contributions to their profession. The gala spotlights those school principals who expect excellence from their students and get it.
