NOAA Tide Predictions - Application Help

Disclaimer: The official Tide prediction tables are published annually on October 1, for the following calendar year. Tide predictions generated prior to the publishing date of the official tables are subject to change. The predictions from the web based NOAA Tide Predictions are based upon the latest information available as of the date of your request. Tide predictions generated may differ from the official published predictions if information for the station requested has been updated since the publishing date of the official published tables.

Disclaimer: These predictions are based upon the latest information available as of the date of your request, and may differ from the officially published predictions.

Warning Regarding use of datums other than the chart datum of MLLW: The NOAA Tide prediction application provides Advanced Options for selecting various datums for the Harmonic stations. Please be advised that only the chart datum of MLLW should be used for navigation purposes.

Prediction Types: The NOAA Tide Predictions application provides 2 distinct categories of predictions from stations at over 3000 locations.

Harmonic: The predicted height values for Harmonic predictions are constructed by combining the harmonic constituents into a single tide curve. The line of these plots is produced from a curve that is fit between predicted hourly values.

Subordinate: The high and low height values for subordinate predictions are obtained by means and differences and ratios applied to the full harmonic constant predictions at a specific referenced station. The line of these plots depicts a curve that is fit between the high and low predicted values and approximates the segments between.

Standard Options:
The NOAA Tide Predictions application provides several standard options including selection of a Daily, Weekly, or Monthly view. Other standard options include the ability to select feet or meters, and the ability to select a time zone of LST/LDT, LST, or GMT.

Several important characteristics of the default ("Daily") view include the time range of 2 Days centered on the current date, Time Zone of LST/LDT, Data Units of Feet, heights referenced to MLLW, and Tabular High / Low values.

Advanced Options: The NOAA Tide Predictions application provides several Advanced Options including selection of one of six different datums (MLLW, MLW, MSL, MHW, MHHW, MTL), time format of AM/PM or 24-Hour, data intervals for the associated tables, and threshold values relative to a user defined threshold value.

Please note that many of the advanced options are not functional for the Subordinate stations.

Print Options: The NOAA Tide Predictions application provides the following 2 print option products:

  • Print View : this product feature provides a convenient method to print a formatted view of the plot and table the user selected in the main application.
  • Print View (traditional format): this product feature provides a convenient method to print the predictions in the format that many users are familiar with from the Published Tide Tables. For consistency with the traditional format the datums are restricted to MLLW.
