Emergency Information

How to report an emergency

When an emergency occurs, your first step is to promptly report the emergency to the Laboratory Shift Superintendent (LSS). The following methods (in preferential order) are utilized to report the emergency:

  • Dial 911 from an on-site telephone
  • Call the LSS Office
    • Directly from either an on-site or cellular telephone at 574-6606
    • Via a two-way radio at base station 10
  • Pull a fire alarm pull-box
  • Send a messenger to report the emergency to the LSS/PSS or a Local Emergency Squad member

After you report the emergency to the LSS, report the event to your facility contact, as soon as possible.

What to report during an emergency

When you report an emergency it is very important to provide all the important details:

  • What is the emergency (fire, injury, illness, etc.)
  • Where is the emergency (building number and entrance)
    • Be accurate, for example, north, south, main entrance, etc.)
    • Ensure that someone will meet the ambulance, fire department, etc.
  • What or who is needed, if known: (fire department, medical, etc.)
  • Provide your name and phone number
  • Stay on the phone
    • Stay on the telephone (if your safety is not threatened) until your message is understood and the LSS releases you.
