Walker's Guidance Program aims to impact students' self-esteem through intervention and prevention services.  The counselor's role is as a caring, non-judgmental liaison for students, parents, school staff, and community leaders.  The counselor offers classes for parents on parenting and Terra Nova testing, helping students with homework, and other issues that are important to your child's success.  Parents are encouraged to contact the counselors, at (502) 624-7332DDESS logo,  if you have concerns about your child's social or emotional development.

Goals of the Walker Elementary Counseling Program are...

To help children to understand themselves and others.

To identify children with special needs and facilitate the appropriate intervention.

The counselor works with children...

In the classroom setting on topics such as social skills and conflict management.

In small groups on topics such as Anger Management, Making and Keeping Friends, and Changing Families.

Individually on personal, social, or academic concerns.

Peer Mediation is available for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students.

The counselor works with teachers and other professionals...

On resource materials land ideas.

On processing referrals.

Consulting with other professional regarding concerns and special needs.

The counselor works with parents...

By providing data and interpreting it to meet the child's needs.  

By making appropriate referrals.

By dealing with school adjustment concerns.

By providing parenting information.

Videos, books, and pamphlets are available for parents to borrow.
