Ellen Mecray, Bob Barton and Pattie Baucom, Woods Hole Field Center (WHFC), attended an OSHA HAZWOPER 24-hour course in workplace safety and hazardous materials from March 15-17, 1999. This course taught the participants how to identify hazards, confined spaces, chemical placards, and OSHA permit requirements. It also addressed the federal regulations governing hazardous materials, the procedures to use in case of an incident, and the levels of personal protective equipment used for different situations.
