Albrecht Named Assistant Superintendent of North Carolina District

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — August 3, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis,Senior Civilian and Deputy Director for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mr. Carl Albrecht has been named an Assistant Superintendent for the North Carolina District. He joins Assistant Superintendent Harriet Hunter-Boykin, Ed.D., and the two will oversee the schools aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.

Mr. Albrecht comes to DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba from DoDDS-Pacific where he was Assistant Superintendent for Transition with the DoDEA Korea school district.   He recently spent a year deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as Deputy Chief of the Education Division for the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. Mr. Albrecht began his career with DoDEA in 1967 as a teacher at Kubasaki Junior High in Okinawa, Japan, before moving on to assignments in Germany, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Bahrain and the United Kingdom.

“Carl’s experiences as a teacher and administrator in DoDEA will well serve the NC District. He brings a wealth of knowledge to our leadership team, having successfully worked for a number of years with military partners and families to ensure student success,” said Dr. Emily Marsh, North Carolina District Superintendent. “Carl’s dedication to military families, tireless energy, and proven ability to manage complex issues will enable him to make a difference in the lives of students and families aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.”

Originally from Michigan, Mr. Albrecht earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English and History from Michigan State University, and his Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis on supervision, administration and instruction from Boston University.

Mr. Albrecht and his wife, Lucia, have two children.
