U.S. Department of Education Awards $3 Million to Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and New York City to Aid in Recovery from Hurricane Sandy

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Healthy Students has awarded $3 million in Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grants to Connecticut ($250,000), New Jersey ($1.25 million), New York ($500,000) and New York City ($1 million) to assist with recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

U.S. Department of Education Awards Nearly $50,000 to Help Chicago Public Schools Recover from Multiple Shootings

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students has awarded Chicago Public Schools (CPS) an Immediate Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant totaling nearly $50,000. The grant will provide assistance for recovery efforts following 35 shootings this past year at four high schools in the Greater Englewood community.

U.S. Department of Education Awards More Than $56,000 to Help Chardon Local Schools Recover from School Shooting

The U.S. Department of Education announced today a $56,000 Project School Emergency Response to Violence (Project SERV) Immediate Services grant awarded to Chardon Local Schools in Chardon, Ohio, to support recovery efforts following a shooting at Chardon High School earlier this year that resulted in the death of three students and injury of three others.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students, formerly the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools, has awarded Joplin Schools in Joplin, Missouri, an Extended Services Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant totaling $818,185 to continue assistance for ongoing recovery efforts following a deadly tornado that ripped through the state last year.

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Deputy Administrator Rich Serino will visit Joplin, Mo., on Thursday to meet with students, teachers and faculty as well as local officials and receive an update on how the Joplin community is continuing to recover from the May 2011 tornado.

U.S. Department of Education Awards Almost $50,000 to Help Millard Public Schools Recover From Tragic Shooting and Teen Suicide

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools has awarded Millard Public Schools in Omaha, Neb., an almost $50,000 Project School Emergency Response to Violence (SERV) grant to assist with ongoing recovery efforts following the shooting of an assistant principal at Millard South High School and the subsequent suicide of the student who shot him.
