- Training Resource Pakage for Family Planning
The Training Resource Package for Family Planning (TRP) is a comprehensive set of materials designed to support up-to-date training on family planning and reproductive health. The TRPFP was developed using evidence-based technical information from WHO publications: Family Planning: A Global Handbook for Providers; the latest WHO Medical Eligibility Criteria for Contraceptive Use; and Selected Practice Recommendations for Contraceptive Use. - High-Impact Practices (HIPs) K4Health Toolkit
To help maximize investments in and impact of family planning programs, the U.S. Agency for International Development convened a group of international experts in family planning and reproductive health to identify "high-impact practices." High-Impact Practices (HIPs), when scaled up and institutionalized, will maximize investments in a comprehensive family planning strategy.

Join the new online community dedicated to international family planning. This community will bring together individuals working in family planning programs around the world and provide a space to share experiences, best practices, and lessons learned in family planning programming.

With the goal of improving health service delivery on a global scale, the K4Health Web Portal offers a one-stop-shop where users can efficiently search for, organize, adapt and use up-to-date, evidence-based health information.

- Reproductive Health Interchange (RHI)
RHI is a Web-based tool that collects order and shipment information for RH supplies procured by USAID’s Central Contraceptive Procurement project, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
- Communication for Change (C-Change)
C-Change, implemented by FHI 360, is a USAID-funded project to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) across development areas. The project works with global, regional, and local partners in the major health areas, including family planning and reproductive health, HIV prevention, and malaria prevention. C-Change also provides communication support to other sectors, including democracy and governance, civil society, and environment.

- Family Planning: A Global Handbook for Providers
(Updated 2011)
This handbook offers clinic-based health care professionals in developing countries the latest guidance on providing contraceptive methods. One of the WHO’s Four Cornerstones of Family Planning Guidance, the book has been prepared through a unique collaboration between USAID, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and over 30 organizations around the world.
- World Contraception Day: Your life. Know your rights. Learn about contraception
“YOUR-LIFE.COM Take Responsibility” is the official site for the World Contraception Day (WCD) campaign. Its mission is to improve awareness of contraception to enable young people to make informed decisions on sexual and reproductive health. It provides information resources about the anatomy of reproduction, contraceptive options, and the dangers of STIs. The site also reaches out to a youthful audience through widgets, games, blogs and media content.
- The ACQUIRE Project Digital Archive
This archive constitutes legacy of The ACQUIRE Project and has been designed as a searchable knowledge resource for the reproductive health and family planning (RH/FP) community. It contains a wide range of resources that were developed over the life of the project, at both the global and the country (field) levels.
- Contraceptive Discontinuation: A One-Year Follow-Up Study of Female Reversible Method Users in Urban Honduras - October 2008 [PDF, 275KB]
This study examines women's contraceptive use prospectively over a one-year period in four urban areas of Honduras. It goes beyond previous research by assessing the relative importance of and interactions among the family planning service environment, women's individual characteristics, and their experience with side effects on contraception continuation or discontinuation.

- Impact of Oportunidades on Contraceptive Methods Use in Adolescent and Young Adult Women Living in Rural Areas, 1997-2000 - December 2008 [PDF, 469KB]
Oportunidades is a social program run by the Mexican government that seeks to improve education, health, nutrition, and living conditions of those living in extreme poverty. People supported by the program attend monthly health talks, which include information on contraceptive methods.
- The Balanced Counseling Strategy (BCS) - November 2008
The Population Council’s Frontiers in Reproductive Health (FRONTIERS) Program offers the BCS – a practical, interactive, client-friendly counseling strategy that uses three key job aids (visual memory aids) for counseling clients about family planning. The process, tested and refined in several countries, involves a set of steps to determine the method that best suits the client according to her preferences and reproductive health intentions.
- The Systematic Screening Manual
This training manual from the Population Council’s Frontiers in Reproductive Health (FRONTIERS) Program provides guidance for program managers, supervisors, and providers who wish to integrate systematic screening into their health services. Systematic screening is a simple strategy to increase the number of services received at a single client visit.
- Comparing Effectiveness of Family Planning Methods [PDF, 219KB]
A panel of experts from USAID, the K4H Project, EngenderHealth, and FHI drafted this chart, which presents contraceptive methods on a continuum of effectiveness to help clients make informed contraceptive choices.
- Community-Based Family Planning (CBFP), Technical Update No. 5: Family Planning During The First Year Postpartum [PDF, 99KB]
Produced by the Flexible Fund Team at USAID and the Child Survival Technical Support+ Project (CSTS+), CBFP Technical Updates provide the latest tools and resources for family planning programming. This latest update describes the need to integrate postpartum family planning information and services into other maternal, newborn, and child health services for community-based programs.
- The Lactational Amenorrhea Method (LAM): A Postpartum Contraceptive Choice for Women Who Breastfeed [PDF, 238KB]
This brief is intended to guide health care providers in offering LAM services within maternal and child health, reproductive health or family planning programs. It describes what LAM is, the advantages of the method, and the criteria for use. Key elements of LAM services are addressed in the brief as are optimal breastfeeding behaviors.
- Healthy Timing and Spacing of Pregnancies (HTSP) [PDF, 297KB]
The health benefits of a minimum of two years between a mother’s last birth and her next pregnancy are well documented. The USAID-funded Extending Service Delivery (ESD) project has compiled numerous resources and tools to help family planning and reproductive health advocates integrate this message into their current programs.
- IUD Toolkit
The IUD Toolkit was compiled by members of the IUD Subcommittee of USAID's Maximizing Access and Quality Initiative. Policy makers, program managers, providers, and others interested in adding or improving existing IUD services in their family planning programs can visit http://www.k4health.org/toolkits/iud to access free and downloadable full-text resources on the IUD. Many resources are available in French or Spanish.
