Feb. 2009: Unit deployed to Iraq. The 287th MP Co. was initially activated in August 1943, earning campaign credits in 1944 for service in Normandy and northern France. The unit then moved to the Pacific Theater and the Philippines before deactivating in January 1946. In November 1953, the company was activated in Berlin, Germany. In 1961, the unit began manning Checkpoint Charlie, serving as the gatekeepers of the West. The company again was deactivated in September 1994, but saw another activation in February 2008, joining the 97th MP Bn. at Fort Riley.
