Creative Problem Solving

Each of the six steps above has a Divergent Phase (  ) followed by a Convergent Phase (  ). See below for a description of the steps in each phase.

Divergent Phase

0. Avoid judging or evaluating ideas as they are offered
0. Generate as many ideas as possible
0. Accept all the ideas generated
0. Stretch your thinking
0. Allow time for ideas to "grow"
0. Combine or connect ideas or concepts 

Convergent Phase

0. Use a logical, methodical approach to make choices or decisions
0. Clearly and specifically state the basis for evaluating ideas
0. Avoid a rush to closure
0. Don't ignore or avoid difficult issues
0. Look for strengths or positive aspects of ideas
0. Remain focused on the objectives
