Dear Mr. Chairman:
The purpose of this letter is to
inform you that the Office of Environmental Management (EM) portion of
Commitment 4.3.3 in the Department of Energy’s Software Quality Assurance (SQA)
implementation Plan of March 13, 2003, has been completed. This Implementation Plan was in response to
the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board Recommendation 2002-1, Quality Assurance Safety
Software at Department of
Energy
Defense Nuclear Facilities. EM
has now completed all of its commitments under this recommendation.
Per our commitment, each EM site
has reviewed the approved SQA directives and determined the actions necessary
and a schedule to implement the requirements.
These actions comprise
incorporation of the SQA directives (i.e., DOE O 414.1C) into current and
planned contracts, implementing these requirements at the contract level, and
performing DOE verification that the requirements are implemented. A summary of this information is provided in
the enclosed table.
