OSHA Voluntary Protection Program<< Back to OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs

In April 2011, Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels and Deputy Assistant Secretary Richard Fairfax created a Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) Review Team, comprised of representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Regional and National Offices. The VPP Review Team was directed to conduct a review of the VPP operations and to make recommendations to the Assistant Secretary to enhance the program.

The following report outlines the work and recommendations of the VPP Review Team. The goals of the recommendations were to improve and make the VPP review operations more consistent and efficient while maintaining the integrity of the VPP. While several of the recommendations have already been implemented, OSHA is in the process of determining which recommendations will be adopted and when. It is likely that many of them can be implemented in relatively short to medium time frames (by March 31, 2013) and that a few will take more time to implement appropriately.
