Carrier/Driver Safety

Motor Carrier Safety Measurement System (SMS)

The Motor Carrier Safety Measurement System (SMS) is an automated system that quantifies the on-road safety performance of motor carriers to support FMCSA to identify carriers for a potential intervention and to monitor whether a motor carrier's compliance problem is improving or worsening.

Driver Information Resource (DIR)

The Driver Information Resource (DIR) provides a web based lookup capability that allows FMCSA and State enforcement personnel to search, via a secure password, a driver's crash and inspection history by driver name, commercial driver license number or carrier identification information. A driver's crash and/or violation data will be displayed if the driver had an inspection within 3 years or a crash within 5 years. All crash and inspection events that meet these criteria will be included and associated with both the driver and motor carrier for whom they were operating.

Driver Safety Measurement System (DSMS)

The Driver Safety Measurement System (DSMS) is an internal tool available to FMCSA and State enforcement personnel to evaluate a driver’s safety performance.

GOTHAM

GOTHAM is an internal FMCSA resource used by Division Administrators, safety inspectors, and headquarters personnel to report on FMCSA program activities. This application is only available to FMCSA employees. If you are an FMCSA employee and are using a computer on the U.S. Department of Transportation network, then you will be able to access this application. If you are not on the U.S. DOT network, you will receive a "Page Not Found" error.

Bus Safety

The Bus/Passenger Carrier Information website is designed to inform passenger carriers and the traveling public about the FMCSA's passenger carrier program and regulations. It provides guidelines for passengers on selecting the right vehicle and a safe company, and it provides carriers with information on regulatory information by carrier type.

Pre-employment Screening Program

The FMCSA's Pre-employment Screening Program helps motor carriers make more informed hiring decisions by providing electronic access to a driver’s crash and inspection history from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS). PSP records are now available for motor carriers and commercial drivers.
