RCOOS supports oceanic and atmospheric observations

The Carolinas Regional Coastal Ocean Observing System (RCOOS) is a subregional component of the NOAA IOOS funded Southeast Coastal Ocean Observing Regional sociation (SECOORA). The Carolinas RCOOS was formally established in 2007 when two existing sub-regional ocean observing programs merged: the University of South Carolina (USC)-based Carolinas Coastal Ocean Observing and Prediction System (Caro-COOPS) and the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program (CORMP).
