Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve offers education and training programs for a range of audiences, including students, teachers, and families, as well as state and local government leaders and other coastal decision-makers. The goal of these programs is to improve environmental literacy in our communities to enable environmentally sustainable decision making.

The Reserve’s education and training programs utilize the protected natural habitats within the Reserve and transfer knowledge of coastal and estuarine ecosystem processes developed by research results from here and elsewhere to various audiences.

Coastal Training Program
The Coastal Training Program provides skill-building opportunities and up-to-date scientific information to individuals who are making decisions that affect Delaware’s coastal resources. This includes partnering with several agencies and organizations to provide data and information relevant to the current coastal issues.

Community Education
The Reserve offers a variety of free public programs ranging from boat and canoe trips to workshops, seminars, and habitat hikes to foster a personal connection with coastal and estuarine areas leading to resource conservation.

School Programs
The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve offers site-based and outreach environmental educational programs for grades K-16. The Reserve Curriculum provides students with an opportunity to understand ecosystem functions through the exploration of an estuary. It also provides them with the tools to make difficult decisions about the future of these valuable resources.

Teacher Professional Development
The Delaware Reserve offers Teacher Professional Development opportunities through various programs including Green Eggs & Sand, Estuaries 101, and Project WET (Water Education for Teachers).

Thank You Delaware Bay
The Thank You Delaware Bay is an outreach campaign developed to showcase the beauty and amenities of the Delaware Bay and to encourage actions and activities that will help protect the bay's health and resources. The Delaware Bay takes care of us. Let’s return the favor.
