The report summarizes changes in the number of local jails during the 1990's; average daily population and number of men, women, and juveniles confined in local jails; number of inmates and facilities by size of facility; inmate conviction status; inmate gender, race and Hispanic origin; facility rated capacity and percent of capacity occupied; 25 largest jail jurisdictions; number of staff and staff characteristics; facility health services and inmate health; and facility programs.
