SEAC4RS - ESPO - Thailand - Shipping Plan

The only economical way to ship equipment to Thailand is by sea, so we are urging everyone to send as much equipment as possible by this method. With the DC-3 project being conducted before SEAC4RS it is understood that some equipment will not be available in time for the sea shipments. Please plan on sending any equipment that you have available and any expendables you might need, on the early shipment leaving June 1. This includes calibration gasses and solvents or chemicals.

Sea shipments:

Any equipment you plan on sending to Thailand via the sea shipment will need to arrive at NASA DAOF by Friday May 25th. Shipments will leave NASA DAOF on June1 and arrive in Thailand on Aug. 1.

Shipments to Thailand will go by steam ship line from the West Coast and will take approximately two months door to door. This includes transit time to and from ports and customs clearance. For these shipments we will stage equipment at NASA Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility (DAOF), to be loaded into 20 and 40 foot sea cargo containers.

Air Shipment:

We are looking at options for an air shipment to Thailand from Palmdale approximately August 1. This will be for any aircraft or science equipment that cannot be shipped in advance on the sea shipments. It is very important that we minimize the amount of equipment being air shipped. Currently the size of the aircraft is unknown. Clearly differentiate the equipment you expect to have Air Shipped from the Surface Shipment equipment in the ESPO database comment box.

Return from Thailand Shipment:

All equipment returning to the US from Thailand at the end of the project will be shipped via sea shipments. These shipments will take 2 months, with an approximate return date of Dec.1 to Palmdale, CA.

If you require your equipment sooner, you will be responsible for the arrangements and payment of your shipments. Please contact me directly for assistance with the return shipping procedures.

Shipping lists:

Since this is an international shipment, a complete inventory of all equipment will be needed for foreign customs. See the shipping list template, linked below, for examples of what is needed for all equipment. It is best to list equipment per box or crate and provide as much detail as possible. Please provide this to me prior to shipping your equipment to DAOF. A MSDS must be provided for all hazmats and compressed cylinders. Clearly differentiate the equipment you expect to have Air Shipped from the Surface Shipment equipment in the ESPO database comment box.

Shipping Template

Hazmats / Dangerous goods:

All hazmats must be packed separately from your other equipment to avoid any incompatibility issues. Proper packaging and labeling is required for all hazmats. A hazmat is any compressed gas, solvent, chemical or any item with residue in it. If it has a chemical name it is most likely considered a hazmat. Please email me a complete list of hazmats prior to shipping to NASA DAOF. Make sure you annotate in the ESPO database for all hazmat, including radioactive sources.

Packaging / Labeling:

You should pack any fragile or sensitive equipment in hard shell cases with plenty of cushioning material whenever possible. Clearly label all boxes and shipping lists with “SEAC4RS” the “Instrument Name” and the “PI name”.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Quincy
