Hoda, a Hokie, Comes to the Library

(This is a guest post by Audrey Fischer of the Library’s Public Affairs Office)

Whether you know her as half of the “Kathie Lee & Hoda” show or as veteran broadcast journalist and co-host of the fourth hour of NBC’s Today Show, come to the Library of Congress this Friday to hear Hoda Kotb speak about her “journey.”  It promises to be great – people are still talking about the stirring commencement address this most famous “Hokie” alumna gave at Virginia Tech in 2008.

Hoda will be delivering the keynote address for Women’s History Month at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 19, in the Montpelier Room, located on the sixth floor of the Library’s James Madison Building, 101 Independence Ave S.E., Washington, D.C. (Capitol South Metro).

Although this is Hoda’s first official visit to the Library of Congress, she’s like family. Her mother is a long-time Library cataloger with a specialization in Middle Eastern collections. Of Egyptian heritage, Hoda was invited to speak by the Library’s African and Middle Eastern Division.

By the way, the African and Middle Eastern Division is sponsoring the Library’s new exhibit, “Voices from Afghanistan.”

The exhibit marks the recent gift from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty to the Library’s African and Middle Eastern Division of a collection comprising 15,000 letters from listeners of Radio Azadi (RFE/RL’s Afghan Service).

So come early and stay late – view the exhibit in the Thomas Jefferson Building (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) then come to Hoda’s talk. It will be on display through May 8, or view it online.

Thank you so much for all the wonderful activities that are happening at the Library of Congress.

Because I was able to gather so much information from the Library of Congress to complete the research on the legacy of my greatgrandfather who served in the Civil War in 1864 until 1866, I will always be greatful for all the help and sevice I received.
