Integrated Resource Restoration Results
Pilot Region Successes
The three regions included in the Fiscal Year 2012 Integrated Resource Restoration pilot program (PDF version, 4.3 MB).
Northern Region Successes
- The Northern Region (Region 1) recognizes that National Forest Resource Restoration (NFRR) generally fits well with the concepts of integration, collaboration, and “right work—right place”.
- The Northern Region has emphasized the importance of directing and leveraging resources toward highest priority needs in our most important watersheds.
- Within the Northern Region, there has been an active focus on collaborative processes through such groups as the Montana Forest Restoration Committee.
Southwest Region Successes
- NFRR has provided the Southwest Region (Region 3) with the increased flexibility needed to determine and implement the most important work rather than being constrained by the primary purpose of a specific Budget Line Item (BLI)
- Utilizing NFRR has allowed the Southwest Region to work more efficiently within other initiatives such as the watershed condition framework and Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration (CFLR) Program.
- The flexibility within NFRR has allowed the Southwest Region to fund several priority Western Bark Beetle projects when the State and Private Forest health funds decreased.
Intermountain Region Successes
- The Intermountain Region (Region 4) has witnessed an increase in the level of integration and on the types of projects that are now being emphasized.
- Integrated Resource Restoration has given line officers the flexibility to fund accomplish priority actions, not necessarily those of individual programs.
- Since NFRR is no individual program’s funding, the Intermountain Region has been able to assess restoration priorities based on multiple issues.
