Nominate someone to attend the UK premiere of George Lucas’ documentary Double Victory
The UK premiere of George Lucas’ documentary Double Victory will take place at the U.S. Embassy on January 12th 2012. It will be attended by VIPs, surviving Tuskegee airmen and special guests, picked by the public. The screening will be followed by a diplomatic reception.

He returned to the UK recently as a member of the USA's Fencing Team, preparing for the Olympics and meeting local school kids at Colverstone Primary in Hackney.

Gina Loring is an Los Angeles based poet and rap singer.
The U.S. Embassy London bought her across the pond to work with teenagers in Belfast, Manchester and London.
In this Youtube video, she explains how helping kids explore poetry is inspirational, and she performs her tribute to the British capital.

Facebook Contest Winner Meets DCM Stephenson

Back in July U.S. Embassy London sponsored a contest for an original piece of work that demonstrated the friendly relations and mutual excitement over the 2012 Games between the United States and the United Kingdom.
This week the winner of the contest, Jeremy Farrance, popped into the Embassy to collect his prize from Deputy Chief of Mission Barbara Stephenson.

Remembering with Hope: The 10th Anniversary of September 11th

Ambassador Susman joined families of the British victims of 9/11, HRH Prince Charles, Prime Minister Cameron and other dignitaries in Grosvenor Square on Sunday, 11 September 2011, for a moving ceremony of remembrance. Photos of the ceremony are on Flickr.
Ambassador Susman's delivered these remarks at September 11th Memorial Garden event (also available: Youtube video) and Deputy Chief of Mission Barbara Stephenson joined the 9/11 event at the American Church in London.

U.S. Embassy Volunteers Commemorate September 11th at Battersea Park’s ‘American Ground’

Nearly 100 volunteers participated in a Day of Service to commemorate September 11th on 9 September 2011 in Battersea Park.
The volunteers – from the U.S. Embassy in London, the disability gardening charity Thrive, and Wandsworth Council – joined forces to restore the ‘American Ground,’ a 19th century garden in need of upgrading and maintenance.
The annual Day of Service was inspired by President Obama’s ‘United We Serve’ initiative, a call to volunteers to perform acts of good will on September 11th. Such volunteer activities take place all across the U.S. on and around September 11 each year.
Shadowball: Learning about Baseball, Jazz & Discrimination

London schoolchildren learn about Jazz, Baseball and discrimination in 1930s America.
In July 2011 the students at the Baden Powell and Sebright Primary Schools performed in a jazz opera and learned how to play baseball. Staff from the U.S. Embassy London went along to help out (Youtube).
Fulbright Scholar Sabrina Doyle On British-American Film
Sabrina Doyle was the first pupil from her school in Brent to win an Oxbridge place. Now she’s one of our Fulbright Scholars at the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles.On the way, she’s written and directed her own work, worked for the BBC and even met Quentin Tarentino.
As a Fulbright UK Film Council Scholar, Sabrina is studying for her MFA at the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles, where she is a Directing Fellow. She made four films in her first year, including one set during the Iraq war. She is now preparing to shoot her thesis film, 113°, which is a relationship drama set in space.

14 June 2011 "Shadowball" - Jazz/Civil Rights & Baseball project in Hackney, East London The Embassy Public Affairs team pulled together a group of nine Embassy personnel to help train 60 inner city school kids from Baden Powell Elementary in Hackney. These enthusiastic students from Baden Powell School and Sebright School
in East London are part of an Embassy-sponsored program called “Shadowball” that teaches UK youths about the civil rights struggle in the United States.

10 June 2011 USAID Administrator Shah To Travel to London 13-14 June USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah begins his visit to London by representing the United States Government at the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI Alliance) donor pledging conference. He will then participate at the second U.S.-EU High Level Consultative Group Meeting. Dr Shae will then deliver an address on delivering meaningful results in global development at the London School of Economics.
07 June 2011 U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle Visits London Docklands The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle, “America’s Tall Ship,” is scheduled to arrive at the West India Docks at Canary Wharf in London, England this Friday as part of their 2011 cruise celebrating the 75th anniversary of Eagle’s construction. Eagle will be open for free public tours from 1:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday.

14 April 2011 Ross Kemp meets Lt General Caldwell BAFTA award winning journalist and actor Ross Kemp met the Commander of the NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan today, Lt General William Caldwell. They discussed progress being made training Afghan National Forces, readying them to take charge of Afghan domestic security. Lt General Caldwell also spoke at Chatham House on the NATO training mission in Afghanistan.
