1ST INF. DIV. POST
Brig. Gen. Donald M. MacWillie, senior commander, Fort Riley, awarded the Army Safety Streamer to the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Riley and the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, during the Composite Risk Management meeting Dec. 11 at 1st Inf. Div. headquarters.
MacWillie recognized the units for achieving the safety standards specified in AR 385-10 in order to qualify for the streamer.
The requirements include going 12 consecutive months without a Class A or B accident, two of the most serious categories of incidents in the Army; achieving 100-percent completion of CRM training; and completing the Army Readiness Assessment Program, according to Rick Hearron, safety manager, Garrison Safety Office, Fort Riley.
Safety efforts across the 1st Inf. Div. and Fort Riley, include "fully integrating brigade safety managers into all operations within the brigade and sustainment of (the) safety program during the transition when the (headquarters) redeploys," Hearron said.
The safety efforts resulted in fewer vehicle mishaps, weapons incidents and aviation mishaps, according to Hearron.
Col. William Clark, garrison commander, Fort Riley, thanked employees for "taking care of each other and making sure "we don't have any accidents on the job" at a recent employee town hall meeting.
During the presentation, MacWillie expressed his hope that more units will quality for the streamer in the future.
