How your disability affects your benefit amount

Can my Social Security disability benefit amount increase if my disability gets worse or if I have other health problems?

We base the amount of your Social Security disability benefit on your lifetime earnings before your disability began.  We do not base it on the severity of your disability.

If you go back to work after you start receiving your disability benefit, you may be able to get a higher benefit based on those earnings.

We also will review your medical condition from time to time.  If you have more than one disabling condition, we will consider all your impairments when we review your case.
