Survivability/Lethality Analysis

Ballistic Vulnerability / Lethality (V/L)

Survivability/Lethality Electronic Warfare

ARL conducts ballistic experiments; execute live-fire tests on Army aviation systems; analyze effects of weapons against materiel and personnel; and develop software tools to perform V/L analyses. ARL does this to provide recommendations to optimize materiel for survivability of high-priority Army aviation, ground combat, munitions and future-force systems, which drive design decisions by program managers.

Electronic Warfare

ARL analyzes the performance of Army sensors, electronics, and communications and network systems in a complex electromagnetic environment; identify susceptibilities; conduct laboratory investigations, hardware-in-the-loop experimentation, and anechoic chamber measurements; develop threat simulators for open-air testing; and provide mitigation techniques. ARL does this in support of the Army's independent evaluator and provide recommendations to optimize materiel for survivability of high-priority Army air and missile defense systems, C4ISR systems, and future force systems, which drive design decisions by program managers.

Information Assurance/Computer Network Defense (IA/CND)

ARL develops threat exploits; model real-world threat attacks; develop tools to portray threats; study and analyze threat technology; experiment and test threat computer network operations; analyze the security of Army-specific, off-the-shelf systems software to identify the vulnerabilities and recommend mitigations. ARL does this to inform Army evaluations and directly influence the design of systems.

Systems of Systems (SoS)

ARL develops methodology and tools to model the performance of systems of systems against ballistics, computer, and electronic warfare threats. This capability is crucial to undertaking technology and system tradeoffs in a SoS context and thus optimizing the survivability of the Army's future force. This is filling a need in the Army's acquisition and test and evaluation capabilities.
