ANNOTATION: This presentation explains that psychopathy is. Individuals involved with criminal offenders should be aware of this mental sickness. Psychopathy is a “personality disorder in which an individual manifests immoral and antisocial behavior, lack of ability to love or establish meaningful personal relationships, extreme egocentricity (self-centeredness), failure to learn from experience, etc.” Topics covered include: what psychopathy is; a brief history; Cleckley’s psychopath; Hare’s psychopathy; how it manifests in three ways; snakes in suits; psychopathic characteristics; impulsivity; criminal activities; psychopathy, recidivism, and drug abuse; therapy; snakes in skirts; “successful” psychopaths; prevalence; theories of origin; child psychopaths; measures of psychopathy; a divide in the community between psychopathy and ASPD (antisocial personality disorder); and conclusion. While psychopaths make up only 1% of the general public, 20% of incarcerated males are psychopaths who commit over 50% of the serious crimes in the U.S.
