U.S. Joins Consensus on Resolution on the Realization in All Countries of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

Explanation of Position by the United States of America

Resolution:  Question of the Realization in All Countries of  Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

UN Human Rights Council – 19th Session

Geneva

The United States congratulates the co-sponsors of this resolution and joins consensus on this resolution today.

As Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor  Michael Posner stated in March 2011, the United States will “work constructively with like-minded delegations to adopt fair and well-reasoned resolutions at the UN that speak to the issues of economic, social and cultural rights and are consistent with our own laws and policies.”  This is a good example of such a resolution.

We look forward to continuing to work constructively with our partners at the Human Rights Council to advance our shared interest in progressively realizing the economic, social, and cultural rights of our citizens.
