Classification and Staging of Head and Neck Cancer
The majority of head and neck tumors arise from a noninvasive precursor in surface squamous epithelium that progresses to become squamous carcinoma. Other less common head and neck tumors arise from other structures, including the major and minor salivary glands, and give rise to a variety of other tumor types, such as adenocarcinomas.
