Lower Potomac Field Station
The Eastern States Lower Potomac Field Station manages recreation and natural resources on two properties in Maryland and Virginia.
The Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area offers 6 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails including a universally accessible trail to Hidden Pond, two fishing ponds, 800 acres of forest and meadows, environmental education programs, horse boarding stable, geocaching, picknicking and bird watching.
Meadowood offers environmental education programs for homeschoolers, public and private schools, local 4-H groups and community youth agencies. Programs consist of bird identification, fishing, habitat hikes, tree identification, Urban Leave No Trace, tracking, invasive weed removal, clean-up days, and many other outdoor environmental education activities.
The Douglas Point Recreation Area in Charles County, Maryland offers 3 miles of trails for hiking, horse riding, hunting, and mountain biking, 548 acres of hardwood forest and marshes, picnicking, Potomac River shoreline, universally accessible historical interpretative walk and hunting blind. Douglas Point is also a segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail segment and water trail stop.
