Air Force Acquisition Sustainment Tool Kit (ASTK)

Topic
Long Description

Closely aligned with the Air Force Logistics Health Assessment (LHA) process, the USAF Acquisition Sustainment Tool Kit (ASTK) consists of three major components: an  ASTK Process Matrix, ASTK Checklists, and the ASTK Kneepad Checklist. The ASTK Process Matrix encompasses all programmatic aspects relevant to product supportability, logistics, and readiness at major acquisition milestones and decision points.  It's a road map of logistics processes sequentially listed from pre-Milestone A through disposal.  This matrix serves as a ready reference for ensuring product supportability is incorporated early in the planning stages. The ASTK Checklists supplement the ASTK Process Matrix and contain process descriptions, sub-tasks and hyperlinks to supporting documentation for specific, complex processes.  They provide a starting point of the who, what, where, when and how of the matching logistics process embedded within the process matrix. The ASTK Kneepad Checklist serves as a user guide to supplement the process matrix and checklists, providing greater detail on each process. These important tools were designed to ensure product supportability is incorporated early in the planning stages and throughout the product lifecycle.

This ASTK Kneepad Checklist was developed as a quick reference tool for those working logistics tasks on weapon system acquisition and sustainment.  The tasks are presented by DoD acquisition phase for easy reference.  Each task needs to be evaluated to ensure that if needed on your weapon system program that it be completed.  The back of the document includes checklists that give more specifics on tasks.  They include "how to" information, as well as links to reference material.  The Air Force developed this quick reference tool designed to be used with the  ASTK Process Matrix and the related ASTK Checklists.  All of this material can be found on the the Air Force Knowledge Now Product Support Campaign Community of Practice (CoP).  Any task within the kneepad that has an expanded checklist in the back is annotated.   Specific questions should be addressed through HQ AFMC/A4A. In addition, working with HQ AFMC/A4 personnel, DAU Mid-West faculty at Kettering, Ohio, have also developed an excellent Acquisition Sustainment Tool Kit Tutorial to assist personnel in using this toolkit. DAU also uses the ASTK Kneepad Checklist as a reference in our LOG 201 Intermediate Acquisition Logsitics course.
