NASA to Host Feb. 7 Media Telecon on Asteroid Flyby
February 4, 2013
NASA will hold a media teleconference at 11 a.m. PST (2 p.m. EST), on Thursday, Feb. 7, to discuss an asteroid, 150 feet (45 meters) in diameter, that will pass close, but safely, by Earth on Feb. 15. The flyby creates a unique opportunity for researchers to observe and learn more about asteroids.

Asteroid 2012 DA14 To Pass Very Close to the Earth on February 15, 2013
February 1, 2013
The small near-Earth asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass very close to the Earth on February 15, 2013,
so close that the asteroid will pass inside the ring of geosynchronous weather and communication
s satellites. NASA's NEO Program Office can accurately predict the asteroid's path with the
observations obtained, and it is therefore known, there is no chance that the asteroid might
be on a collision course with the Earth.

March 6, 2012
Asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass within about 3.5 Earth radii of the Earth's
surface on February 15, 2013. Although its size is not well
determined, this near-Earth asteroid is thought to be about 45
meters in diameter. Asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass inside the
