McAllen, TX – Deputy U.S. Marshals and
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the United States Marshals
Service-multi agency led Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force (GCVOFTF),
arrested a man wanted for Murder on November 5, 2012.
Reymundo Sanchez, 35, was wanted by the Hidalgo County Justice Court in
Hidalgo County, Texas, for the offense of Murder that occurred on March 23,
2012. It is alleged that Sanchez and two other individuals were attempting
to steal diesel fuel from a fuel site near FM 2058 in Penitas, Texas, when a
fuel tank exploded as Sanchez removed the valve. The flames consumed the
tank causing one of the individuals to engulf in fire. Sanchez and the
second individual fled the area as the fire grew larger, leaving the third
individual behind to burn. After the explosion, Sanchez fled to Mexico to
receive treatment for the burn injuries he sustained at the time of the
theft.
Texas Law considers this offense as Murder, a 1st degree felony, if a person
places another individual in danger or causes death while committing an
offense and flees to avoid apprehension from law enforcement. A warrant was
issued against Sanchez charging him with Murder.
On November 5, 2012, U.S. Marshals Service Investigators and Hidalgo County
Task Force Officers developed information that Sanchez was staying in a
rural area in Hidalgo County, Texas. During surveillance, members of the
GCVOFTF positively identified and observed Sanchez enter a house in Hidalgo
County near Edinburg, Texas. Members of the GCVOFTF approached Sanchez, and
placed him under arrest. Sanchez was taken to the Hidalgo County Jail
pending the outcome of his case. Sanchez is also facing another felony
charge for Tampering with Oil and Gas Wells and Associated Equipment.
The GCVOFTF is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from the U.S.
Marshals Service, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Starr County Sheriff’s
Office, McAllen P.D., Mission P.D. San Juan P.D., Weslaco P.D., TDCJ Office
of Inspector General, Texas Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Alcohol
Tobacco & Firearms and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
