BACKGROUND: Mark your calendar and don't miss the leading general aviation event in the European market! AERO 2010, the International Trade Exhibition for General Aviation, takes place April 8-11, 2010. The trade show is now held annually in Friedrichshafen, Germany, the scenic city of the Zeppelin airships. Located in the three-border-triangle of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, AERO 2010 is the ideal stepping stone to enter the European market for general aviation. After AERO 2009 proved to be successful in a difficult market environment (46,400 visitors, 625 exhibitors, 12% more than in 2007, 35 from the United States), the upcoming show will attract more than 600 companies from 30 countries and an estimated 50,000 visitors. Moreover, the organizers expect some 750 press and media representatives from 25 countries. AERO 2010 will cover the following areas: business aviation; single and twin engine aircraft; very light and ultralight aircraft; helicopters; gliders; propulsion systems; avionics, equipment and accessories; on-board, pilot and airport equipment; navigation and radio systems; maintenance and services. In 2009, for the first time AERO received official Trade Fair Certification (TFC) from the U.S. Department of Commerce, underlining the importance of this trade fair as a venue for U.S. technology. The organizer, Messe Friedrichshafen, is represented by Luann Alesio, their North American Representative. Ms. Alesio can be contacted at +1-949-489-9982 or mailto:lalesio@cox.net. More information on AERO 2010 is available at http://aero-friedrichshafen.de/html/en/index.php.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR): The U.S. Commercial Service in Germany is proactively engaged in defending American companies against counterfeit and copyright infringement. IPR is an important part of corporate value and international competitiveness. U.S. trademark, design and patent rights do not of themselves provide protection in Germany or the rest of the European Union (EU); U.S. companies must protect their IPR here in Europe. It is possible to register in countries individually or, for EU-wide trademark and design protection, there are a Community Trademark (CTM) and Registered Community Design (RCD). These provide a single right that protects industrial design or trademark in the entire 25-nation EU mega-market of 450 million people. Both national trademarks and the CTM can be registered through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The U.S. Commercial Service can provide information on EU-wide protection for IPR and defend IPR in Europe at trade fairs. More information is available on our website: http://www.buyusa.gov/germany/en/ipr.html.
