Striking at Sunrise

Lance Cpl. Timothy Jackson, team leader with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, reloads his weapon during a platoon attack at Range 410A on Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., Aug. 8. The platoon-level attacks were part of the battalion's 35-day Enhanced Mojave Viper training exercise. During EMV, the Marines of 'America's Battalion' were trained to kill enemy fighters by polishing infantry skills and practicing counterinsurgency operations. Blasting Dust at Dusk

An Afghan National Army soldier with 4th Kandak, 1st Brigade, 215th Corps, fires a high-explosive, dual-purpose artillery round from a 122 mm howitzer D-30 artillery cannon at dusk in Helmand Province, Afghanistan Sept. 26. Home Again

Capt. Lucas Frokjer, officer in charge of the flightline for Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463, reunites with his family after returning from a seven-month deployment with HMH-463 Sept. 17. The squadron arrived at Hangar 105 and were welcomed home by a large crowd of family and friends. Watching Over
