World Trade Center steel arrives to southwest Ohio

U.S. Representative Steve Austria, Mayor Joan Dautel, and Col. Amanda Gladney hold a small piece of steel girder from New York's World Trade Center during a cermony March 25, 2011 in Fairborn, Ohio. This piece will be taken to local schools to teach about the events that occurred on 9/11. A larger beam from Ground Zero will become part of a memorial at the Wright State University National Center for Medical Readiness, which trains first responders. Navy family rings in 2011 with first New Year's baby

Joseph David Elliott was delivered early Jan. 1, 2011 at Wright-Patterson Medical Center to new parents Andrew and Heather Elliott. Baby "Joey" arrived at 3:05 a.m. and weighed in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces. He was the first New Year's Day baby born in the greater Dayton, Ohio area. Both parents graduated from Beavercreek High School, located near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Kentucky Air Guard supports aeromedical training

CINCINNATI, OHIO -- Capt. Marsha Starks, a nurse from the 633rd Air Base Wing at Langley Air Force Base, Va., notes the vital signs of a simulated patient while airborne Feb 11, 2010, as 1st Lt. Leann Hisle, a flight nurse from 375th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., observes. Captain Starks was participating in a two-week Critical Care Air Transport Team course designed to provide medical personnel with total immersion in the care of severely injured patients. Ground training and simulated-flight training are conducted at the University of Cincinnati, one of four Air Force Centers for Sustainment of Trauma and Readiness Skills (CSTARS) nationwide, but the final day of instruction is provided during actual flight aboard a Kentucky Air Guard C-130. Kentucky's 165th Airlift Squadron began providing C-130s to use as a CSTARS training platform in 2009. (U.S. Air Force by Maj. Dale Greer)
